We should protest by shunning these artists for the sake of the youths. Jamaicans are not as strict on homosexuality as before. On June 28th, 1981, the Lesbian and Gay Pride Day Toronto, now known as Pride Toronto, organized the first protest which rallied up approximately 1,500. These artist are emboldened due to Jamaicans relaxed views on gays and lesbian. Jamaicans can help stop the trend of homosexuality in the music industry by not supporting these artists locally and abroad. Sadly some Jamaicans will continue to support these artists as Jamaica is currently undergoing a change in morals. This move by the artists will negatively impact their careers in Jamaica but will boost their fan base overseas. We have seen countless examples of artists who came out of the closet and almost immediately topped the charts and sold a record amount of albums. No doubt that the decisions made by Spice and other artists will only push them further in their careers due to the nature of the industry. Jamaica once proudly stood against homosexuality but has recently fall back on its stance. The impact that this move will have on young impressionable minds will be devasting long term.
